Personal Experience. Avonlea was founded on Keith's desire to find a safe and nurturing place for his mom, who was diagnosed with Alzheimer's. Many of our caregivers have personal experience in caring for loved ones with Alzheimer's or various other needs. The lessons learned are reflected in Avonlea's care and philosophy.
Safety and Security. Avonlea's security systems, fire sprinklers, and 24-hour professional staff safeguard the home. Staff receives ongoing training in Alzheimer's and safe care procedures.
Individual Attention. A staff-to-resident ratio of 1:3 provides caregivers the time to learn residents' habits, preferences, accomplishments, and remaining abilities. Caregivers use an individualized plan of care based upon a resident's personal information, needs, and medical history to monitor health and wellness.
Medication Management. Our professional staff are trained in proper medication administration to ensure quality care for your loved one. If needed, we communicate and coordinate care with physicians, help to schedule appointments, and order medications for our residents.
Activities and Exercise. Residents and staff spend time together socializing, laughing, crafting, reading, reminiscing, sitting outside, going for walks, and enjoying simple pleasures. Daily activities include "This Day in History", trivia, and reading the Wall Street Journal.
Nourishing Meals. Incorporating the dietary needs and preferences of each resident, we plan three delicious meals, as well as snacks - all prepared fresh daily. Food is shared around a table with friends: residents, staff, and guests. Mealtimes are a perfect time for stopping by!
Regular Wellness Checks. Our registered nurse performs monthly wellness checks on all residents and communicates any concerns with our administrator. Having an on-call RN provides another level of security for our residents.
Dignity and Support. Every effort will be made to allow residents to age in place. Avonlea will offer comfort to residents and their families and, if appropriate, coordinate hospice with a physician.
